
In Memory of Dr. Simon Bott

We remember Dr. Simon Bott, a dedicated educator, mentor and champion for students whose impact continues to shape the University of Houston community.
Dr. Bott served as an instructional professor in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and led with heart and vision. For more than a decade, he was Undergraduate Chair for the Department of Chemistry, guiding countless students through one of the most pivotal stages of their academic journey. He co-directed teachHOUSTON, led the Honors Program in Health Professions and helped students see new possibilities for their futures.
His excellence in teaching and advising earned him the Provost Faculty Advising Award and the prestigious Piper Professor Award, recognizing his extraordinary commitment to chemistry education.
Described by students as an icon, he founded the UH PALS and Cougar Trading Card programs, building connections and pride across campus. Many credit Dr. Bott not only for their academic success but for their confidence, curiosity and love of learning.
After leaving UH in 2016, Dr. Bott founded the chemistry department at Swansea University in the United Kingdom and served as Vice Chair of the South Wales West section of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
